Saratoga
Springs, New York Train Station Commission
In
the Spring of 2003 Alice Manzi was part of a team of artists
who won the commission to provide artwork for the Saratoga
Springs Train
Station in Upstate New York.
The work, ultimately named "Rhythms of Saratoga", consisted of
design and fabrication of a 54 foot architectural frieze for the front of
the new
building as well as a design, to be fabricated in linoleum, for the floor
of the station.
The new station was opened on April 1, 2004, and the work has received much
acclaim.
The
frieze depicts imagery of the train ride from New York City
to the Adirondack Mountains, with images of the city of Saratoga
in the center.

Shown
above is the floor image in linoleum, 10 feet by 20
feet. It represents the figures of the Triton Fountains
in Saratoga's
park
merging with horses, suggesting
the city's
long history of thoroughbred racing.

Anne Diggory and Alice Manzi, holding
the last section of the 54' architectural frieze,
in aluminum, representing the Adirondack Mountains.
Note
that the frieze pictured above is just a portion of the
54 foot full work.
NOTE: Commemorative tee-shirts are available with a portion of
the frieze image
on the front. Tote bags are available with the floor image
on them. Tees are $18 (plus tax) and totes are $20, with
